Extra Hard Boiled Noir

All this talk of fedoras reminded me of two pulp style noir novels I read more than ten years ago. The books have long gone, but the memories remain bloodily etched into my brain. The first is Marc Behm's Eye of the Beholder, later made into a meh movie with the, usually excellent, but this time totally wasted talents of Ewan Macgregor. The book, is an unpleasantly cold and utterly noir story of a voyeuristic private eye.

The second book is The Owl by Bob Forward, with an even worse movie adaptation. The owl is the story of Alex L'Hiboux, a cross between the Equalizer, Batman, and Dirty Harry; especially Dirty Harry. This novel is just begging for a comic book adaptation.

Sorry to sound vague, but no spoilers! Go out and read them.
