CRRRaSh! 419 Merry Monday

The State of Me

Sick bags on stand by.

Christmas started off tense: three difficult adults related to each other... Yeah. But Mum asked me to make a Christmas wish when we pulled a cracker. My wish was to just relax, Zen out, crank out those alpha waves, which is something a few people have told me to do over the years before I have a stroke or a heart attack. It worked, for about 5 minutes, but I'm trying!

While I didn't get any proper presents, I did buy myself a Stranger Things t-shirt before Christmas.

My mother also gave me a nice made-in-China Japanese fan, featuring a knockoff of Hokusai's woodblock print, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, ideal for my beach/Tiki bar setup, when I finally move. I actually have a lot of seaside paraphernalia, boaty stuff, diving gear, etc. Jamaharon!

The State of the Pod

After pod 417 depressing pod stats, things have taken a steeper dive. Although my engagement is up on twitter, there are much less downloads. What happened? If the listeners want the content to change, maybe they should say something.

Tumbleweeds?

Boxing Day

I had Boxing Day sandwiches at Castle Royenstein: poultry, stuffing, mayonnaise, cranberry sauce. Mmm.

COVID Test

I had to take Mum to get a pre-op COVID-19 test earlier today. The usual Mathur family cock-ups ensured; the moment we drive off, I had to drive back for my glasses and Mum's paperwork got muddled up. What is wrong with us?

That Matrix Quadrilogy

I managed to watch the first Matrix film of my Christmas playlist and that's all.

Hammer House of Horror

The Hammer House of Horror TV series was also on my Christmas playlist, but not watched.

Doctor Who Christmas Specials

Other Christmas viewing?

I enjoyed the first two New Who Doctor Who Christmas Specials, but I haven't indulged in much Christmas TV, not even David Tennant's Around the World in 80 Days---something you'd thought would appeal to a Whovian---though I put it on for my parents earlier today.

I honestly don't feel I'm missing out, but that might slightly be to do with an infected right eye.

The Girl Before

I watched BBC four-part thriller, The Girl Before (in standard definition).

I know London rentals are hard to find, but you'd have thought no one would be stupid enough to rent creepy Edward the maniac's murder house. Alas, one tenant after the other just marches in obliviously.

BBC iPlayer Roku App

I don't like the new Roku BBC iPlayer app. The interface is harder to see, it's too easy to select the wrong item, and it seems to buffer a lot.

I've had to drop down to standard definition, something I haven't done for a long time. It's hard to tell whether to blame the performance on BT Infinity or iPlayer, but the iPlayer UI is definitely hard on the eyes.

More Upcoming Vintage Doctor Who Talk

Expect Doctor Who: The Armageddon Factor (1979) in pod 420.

What do You Think of Me Recording a Third Pod?

What do you think of me recording a third, more casual, pod?

It would be strictly about me; a way of separating Monday's Geekly Weekly content from my personal news.
